A lot of people said the same thing about Wayne Rooney’s record breaking goal

Harsh?

Wayne Rooney scored his second league goal of the season on Saturday.

It was also his 250th goal for Manchester United, putting him one ahead of Bobby Charlton as the club’s all-time record goalscorer.

Rooney’s historical strike came in dramatic circumstances.

With United losing 1-0, thanks to Juan Mata’s first-half own-goal, Rooney came-off the bench and found himself standing over a free-kick as the game went into the fourth minute of added time.

The 31-year-old found the net from an acute angle with a powerful free-kick, giving United a 1-1 draw, and putting himself one goal ahead of club legend Charlton.

However, some social media users weren’t convinced that Rooney had intended to score.

They argued that he had meant to cross to his teammates in the penalty area, but over-hit his effort and found the net.

Whether Rooney meant to cross or not, the record books will show he is United’s record goalscorer, an accolade he’s likely to hold for a very long time.
