Besiktas mess up official Loris Karius announcement, promptly delete video

Patrick McCarry

You’ve got to hand it to Besiktas, they certainly back themselves.

The Turkish side’s best ever finish in the Champions Cup and Europa Cup has been reaching the quarter final stage. Still, they fancy themselves as major mover and shakers and now they’ve got themselves Loris Karius to jazz things up… and keep goal.

The club is often viewed as a handy spot for decent players to pitch up for a season or two before they retire, or for others to revive their career, but they have some pedigree in their own country. Karius has now joined ‘The Black Eagles’ to help them on their quest for a 16th Turkish league title.

In terms of social media output, though, Besiktas rival the biggest clubs in the world. Their brand of “Come To Besiktas” transfer announcement videos have become the stuff of legend in recent years. That video featured Pepe, invited on the phone by both Ricardo Quaresma and Alvaro Negredo to join them at the Turkish club.

Guy Medel and Ryan Babel are also at the club, as is Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.

Things have stepped up a bit lately, most notably with the production values in the Turkish Super Lig side’s videos, and they really went hell for leather with their latest video.

Welcoming Karius to the club, their latest offering is about as atmospheric as you could imagine and even though it is wildly over the top, we admire their commitment to making announcement videos good.

Have a watch and judge for yourself.

The video was deleted soon after it was first posted so we can only presume someone in their social department jumped the gun.

The latest reports have the German joining on a two-season loan deal with a first refusal to buy for £7m at the end of that period.
