Liverpool will raid Bayern Munich this summer … but it’s for a fitness coach rather than a player

Expect more Gegenpressing

Jurgen Klopp has hand-picked the man who he wants to lead his Gegenpressing revolution in his first pre-season as Liverpool manager.

The Reds boss has selected Bayern Munich fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer as the man to replace Ryland Morgans, their former head of fitness and conditioning who announced he was leaving the club a fortnight ago.

The Liverpool Echo report that Klopp is a long-term admirer of the 41-year-old who has worked alongside Pep Guardiola, Jupp Heynckes and Louis van Gaal during his spell with the Bundesliga powerhouse.

Kornmayer has been with Bayern for ten years and with the first team for the last six after being promoted through the ranks but is reportedly keen on a change and is expected to join up with the Reds this July.

Many are keen on judging Klopp on his showing next season, when he has a full summer of preparation under him, and Kornmayer will play a significant role in making sure that the Liverpool players are in peak shape for Klopp’s very particular style of play.
