Liverpool to be outnumbered two to one on Monday Night Football for Manchester United game

This should be good...

Robert Redmond

The upcoming Monday Night Football on Sky Sports looks like it’s going to be pretty special.

Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield, with the main stand renovated and the capacity increased, the crowd undoubtedly in full-voice for a rare evening game between the bitter rivals.

There’s also the tactical battle between two of the world’s most high-profile managers, Jurgen Klopp v Jose Mourinho, to look forward to and, before the action kicks-off, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher dissecting the weekend’s games, and previewing the night’s football in a way only they can.

At their best, there’s few, if any, football pundits who can rival their analysis and Monday Night Football is always a treat when they pouring over the weekend’s action.

However, for Monday’s game, the pair will break from tradition, and will be at Anfield, rather than in the studio for the game. They’ll also be joined by Ryan Giggs.

Giggs has been doing the punditry rounds recently, appearing on Sky Sport’s Friday Night Football, and ITV’s England coverage. The United legend left the club last season after Louis van Gaal was sacked and refused a coaching role at Old Trafford.

The 42-year-old was linked with the manager’s position at Swansea City, and interviewed for the role before Bob Bradley was appointed.

He’s the second high-profile guest to appear on MNF in recent weeks. Jurgen Klopp appeared alongside Jamie Carragher a few weeks ago during Burnley’s 2-0 win over Watford, and he went down a storm with viewers.

Giggs has some big boots to fill.

His appearance will also mean United will have two club legends analysing the game compared to one for Liverpool in the form of Jamie Carragher, but if Neville is capable of forgoing his love for United during coverage of games, Giggs should be able to do the same.
