Liverpool and Spurs serve up officially the craziest ending to a Premier League game ever

Matthew Gault

What the actual shit just happened.

Right. Let’s recap. 80th minute: Victor Wanyama near takes the net off with an absolute screamer to draw Spurs level with Liverpool after Mohamed Salah’s opener in just the third minute.

87th minute: Harry Kane wins a penalty after going down under the challenge of Loris Karius. He looked offside, he looked as though he had went down easily, but referee Jon Moss, after discussions with his linesman, gave the penalty. Kane then misses the penalty with a pathetic effort, hit straight at Karius.

91st minute: Salah defies the Spurs defence and pretty much the laws of physics to score a ridiculous solo goal and surely win it, sending Anfield into hysterics in the process.

95th minute: Spurs are controversially – and quite astonishingly – awarded a second penalty after Virgil van Dijk’s challenge on Erik Lamela. Even though van Dijk clearly pulls his leg away, Lamela goes down in a heap. The officials are officially duped.

Kane steps up and hammers the ball into the corner unerringly to clinch a point for Spurs with literally the last kick of the game. It also happened to be the England striker’s 100th Premier League goal.

The final whistle blows and the officials are absolutely castigated by the vast majority inside Anfield. Controversy. Bedlam. Mayhem. Sheer drama. It was, surely by all accounts, the most frenetic, breathless and downright insane climax to a Premier League game of all time.

A rollercoaster of emotions in the space of ten minutes.

Right, I’m away to lie down. Football, bloody hell.
