Liverpool to sign “man-mountain” 15-year-old defender for six-figure fee

“I think he’s the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country”

Liverpool are set to wrap up a deal for Emeka Obi, a 6’5 15-year-old central defender.

Both the Liverpool Echo and the Bury Times report that the six-figure deal is close to completion, and all that remains is to negotiate a number of add-ons related to the player’s development.

Obi is the youngest player to feature in the Bury first-team, after coming on as a substitute in an EFL Trophy game against Morecambe back in August. The Nigerian defender reportedly impressed while on-trial at Stoke City during the summer, and will go into Liverpool’s U18 team when the move is finalised.

Bury manager David Flitcroft predicts big things for the defender in the future, and claims he’s the best player in his age-group in England.

“I think he’s the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country,” the manager of the League One side said.

“He only came in the building two years ago and nothing fazes him. He’s been training with the first team and he’s going back to school next week.

“We’ve had him for five weeks, training with the first team, training with Ryan Kidd and he’s been playing with the U18s.

“He’s just turned 15, he’s a man mountain, but we teach them how to play football and he’s going to be an unbelievable asset to the football club. He’s a kid that’s really switched on, I’ve watched him while he’s been on summer holidays and he’s been in every single day.”
