Liverpool fans may be underwhelmed by Jurgen Klopp’s solution to striker crisis

The spotlight turns to Divock Origi

Jurgen Klopp is a man who looks like he tries to take the positives out of every situation.

So we can understand why the Liverpool manager is putting a brave face on the fact that he is down to the bare bones of attacking options for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Tottenham.

The German is set to line out his side without Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino, while Danny Ings has been ruled out for the season due to a knee injury.

It means that the club have just two strikers left for the match, with Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi the likely front partnership for the game.

Sturridge has scored twice in his three outings this season, after missing almost the entirety of the last campaign through injury, while Origi has played just 17 minutes in the Premier League this season and has been mostly used in Europe.

But the Borussia Dortmund manager is putting a positive spin on Thursday’s news about Ings, and has backed the Belgian to make a big impact over the coming weeks.

“We have Origi – do you know him?”

“In this moment – for the next game – we have Daniel for the position and we have Origi.

“Two strikers, I don’t need more. When you start if you have more it’s perfect. But you have to think how you can react. When Christian is fit then he is an option, for sure but at this moment he isn’t.”
