Liverpool fans fuming at fellow supporters for celebrating injury to their own player

Out of order

“Of course I wouldn’t wish injury on any player…”

It’s a line oft trotted out by football fans to show they’re good guys really. So decent are they that they wouldn’t want a player of a rival team to come to any harm whatsoever. The thing is, if they were being totally honest, they’d admit that’s a load of bollocks.

You may not want anyone to suffer a career threatening injury, but two months out with a hammy? Fuck yeah. Four weeks on the sidelines with a sore ankle? Why not? As long as it’s not something properly serious like a leg break, why not weaken a rival?

That being said, it’s not often that fans of a particular club celebrate an injury to their own players. That’s pretty much what happened after Liverpool lost 2-1 to Roma in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Alberto Moreno was injured with 10 minutes to go as he limped off with a dead leg.

That’s bad news right? As Liverpool’s only established first-team leftback, it’s clearly a blow to the Anfield faithful, no? Well, not quite. It seems that Alberto’s stock has plummeted so far for some Scouse fans that they’re actually chuffed that he’s cropped.

The consensus amongst those revelling in poor Alberto’s misfortune seems to be: a) They consider him to be fundamentally crap, and b) It’s happened now, in the transfer window, so Klopp will be forced into buying reinforcements in the position whilst he still can.

However, the joyful reaction by these Liverpool fans has not gone down well with others. In fact they think it’s pretty fucking rotten that their fellow Reds are taking any modicum of pleasure in the ailment of one of their own.

It’s all a bit like Captain America: Civl War, except Captain America is a fullback who gets turned far too easily…
