Would you be happy with this signing, Liverpool fans?
Liverpool are close to signing Sadio Mane from Southampton for £30m, according to The Guardian.
The two clubs are believed to have been in talks for a number of weeks over Mane, with Southampton originally seeking £40m for the player. However, the club are now prepared to accepted the reduced fee – which is still a pretty big fee – for the 24-year-old.
The Senegalese forward, who can play out wide or behind the centre-forward, scored 15 goals in 43 games last season, joined Southampton from Red Bull Salzburg in 2014.
The Saints could make a profit of £18m on the player, which isn’t as much money as it used to be after the events in Britain on Friday.
Mane was dropped from the starting line-up last February due to disciplinary reasons, and has made no secret of his desire to potentially leave Southampton.
Mane could become the fifth player to make the move from St. Mary’s to Anfield and the record so far has been patchy. Nathaniel Clyne impressed last season, Adam Lallana has improved under Jurgen Klopp and the jury remains out on Dejan Lovren.
It’s best we don’t mention Rickie Lambert.
It’s unclear if the move for Mane will affect Liverpool’s pursuit of Mario Gotze.
