Lionel Messi bottles game of FIFA with fan fearing he’d be thrashed

Simon Lloyd

Throughout his glittering career, Lionel Messi has rarely been one to shirk a challenge.

With five Ballons d’Or to his name, you’d forgive him for backing his own ability on a football pitch… but it appears he’s not quite as confidence when it comes to playing FIFA.

Messi was challenged by the winner of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2015 and, despite being on the cover of the latest edition of the game, the Argentine refused the offer.

Abdulaziz Alshehri was in Zurich to see the Ballon d’Or ceremony as a guest of honour having won the global video tournament last May, and had the opportunity to meet Messi as well as Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately for Alshehri, he couldn’t entice any of the trio into a game.

“We couldn’t play with them,” he explained to Goal.

“Messi didn’t want to play because he didn’t want to lose. And Neymar has a contract with a different game which is a rival to FIFA. Ronaldo, I think he doesn’t play the game. I asked him, he said ‘no I don’t’play.”

Ah well.
