L’Equipe bestow massive compliment on Wes Hoolahan as his playing future is decided

High praise and a new two-year deal for Wes...

Robert Redmond

Wes Hoolahan has signed a new two-year deal with Norwich City.

The Republic of Ireland playmaker’s new contract runs until 2018, at which point he will have played for the Canaries for 10 years, and be in-line for a testimonial.

Hoolahan joined the club from Blackpool and has made 285 appearances in his eight years at Carrow Road.

The 34-year-old has impressed for Norwich in pre-season, scoring three times in two games, and his exploits at Euro 2016 show he’s more than capable of making an impact for the Canaries in the Championship next season.

Alex Neil sang Hoolahan’s praises as the new deal was announced.

“Wes has always been a special player for us,” the Norwich manager told the club’s website.

“More often than not, he’s the one I turn to when I need someone to deliver something for me, and he never really lets me down. He’s a quality player. We all know his qualities. He’ll be key for us this year.”

However, that praise paled in comparison to that bestowed on the Dubliner by L’Equipe.

French sports newspaper dubbed Hoolahan the “Irish Messi” in their story about the contract extension.

Hoolahan’s new deal also went down well with Canaries’ fans.
