L’Equipe award the Irish team generous player ratings

But one French player scored lower

Robert Redmond

L’Equipe are notoriously stingy with their player ratings, but they were generous in their marks for the Republic of Ireland’s defeat to France.

Adil Rami, however, should probably avoid reading the newspaper on Monday morning.

The France defender had a pretty poor game against Ireland on Sunday afternoon in Lyon, and his booking means he will miss the quarter-final.

Rami’s performance was so bad, the French sports’ newspaper considered Shane Duffy to have had a better game – despite the Irish defender getting sent-off just after an hour, and being partly at fault for France’s winner.

Antoine Griezmann was given an eight of 10, while Shane Long, Robbie Brady and Darren Randolph each given six out of 10 marks.

Ireland manager Martin O’Neill was awarded a seven out of 10 for his selection choices and tactics.

While Patrice Evra and N’Golo Kante scored low on the French side.

Irish players were given an average rating of 5.1, and France an average of 5.4.
