Leicester City move to screen away fixture at King Power stadium blocked by Premier League

Simon Lloyd

With their side on the cusp of making history, you can’t blame Leicester City fans for wanting to be as close to the action as possible.

Unfortunately, with two of their remaining league fixtures away from home, the majority of the fans aren’t able to watch their team in the flesh. Having realised this, club chiefs had planned to open up the King Power stadium to broadcast the team’s matches at Manchester United and Chelsea on big screens.

As reported by The Mirror, after asking for permission to screen the games live, the Premier League have blocked the move – ruling that BT Sport and Sky Sports footage cannot be shown in front of a large audience.

Despite this, the club are allowed to show the matches in their stadium’s hospitality suites, with 1,600 spaces to be filled. Supporters will pay £5 for the privilege (or £3 for under 18s), with all money raised going to the LCFC Foxes Foundation.

A victory in this weekend’s fixture at Old Trafford will be enough for Leicester City to clinch Premier League glory following Tottenham’s draw at home to West Brom on Monday.
