The drama continues.
Karim Benzema’s dramatic end to his international career has taken another twist after he unfollowed nearly all of his French teammates on Instagram.
Benzema was sent home early from the World Cup early after picking up an injury however there was some speculation suggesting that he could have appeared in the final after playing in a friendly game for Real Madrid.
He was also given the opportunity to travel with French President Emmanuel Macron by private jet to watch the final in Qatar, bit turned down the approach.
However the 34-year-old rejected Didier Deschamps’ advances after falling out with the French boss and has since confirmed his retirement from international football on social media.
“I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending,” he wrote on Instagram.
Marca have now reported that there has been another development and that Benzema has unfollowed all but five of his former French teammates.
The only ones to have survived the unfollowing spree are Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouaméni, Kylian Mbappé, Raphael Varane and Marcus Thuram.
Camavinga and Tchouaméni both play with the forward at Los Blancos while Varane was a former teammate of his when at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He also follows Zinedine Zidane – a former teammate and manager at Madrid – who has been linked with the national team’s job as Deschamps ponders his future.
