Cast your minds back to last summer.
Only a matter of weeks after narrowly clinging on to their Premier League status, Leicester City began the new campaign with a win – 4-2 over Sunderland.
Having come so close to the drop at the back end of last season, many of the club’s supporters were simply happy to have started the new campaign with three points.
But one Leicester fan dared to dream.
Posting in fans forum Foxes Talk, a fan going by the name leicesterfox11 made an extraordinarily bold prediction. Buoyed by his side’s performance on the opening day, he left the following message, claiming that if they continued to play in such a way (for the remaining 37 games), the rest of the Premier League would struggle to stop a Leicester City title charge.
His fellow Leicester fans weren’t quite so confident in their team’s ability and were quick to ridicule him.
There were ‘lols’, ‘pmsls’ and laughing emojis galore…
But the criticism wasn’t restricted to acronyms and emojis…
Some tried to be nice about it, providing logical reasons as to why winning the Premier League was well out of reach for a club like Leicester.
Take this one, for example – quite possibly the best of the lot:
We don’t know leicesterfox11 is, but he’s certainly got more reason than most to be feeling pretty pleased about his team’s achievements.
Let’s hope he stuck some money on it too.
