Liverpool’s preseason is up and running.
Having faced Tranmere Rovers last week, The Reds travelled up the M6 to face Fleetwood Town on Wednesday evening, recording a 5-0 victory at Highbury Stadium.
Although their team ran out comfortable winners in Lancashire, Liverpool supporters saw enough of new signing Marko Grujic against the League One outfit to realise that he was almost certainly the greatest midfielder of all time.
This is of course Jurgen Klopp’s first preseason at the helm of an English club. Having left Borussia Dortmund at the back end of the 2014-15 season, he ended his self-imposed sabbatical when he replaced Brendan Rodgers last October.
Understandably, the Charismatic German™ is perhaps still adapting to life in England. Some evidence to support this came after the match when he admitted in an interview that he didn’t know anything about the team his Liverpool side had just faced – jokingly suggesting he thought they were a rock band.
“I know nothing about Fleetwood. I thought it was a rock band to be honest,” he grinned, referencing Fleetwood Mac, whose legendary back catalogue includes the iconic album ‘Rumours’.
And to think some people say that Germans don’t have a sense of humour.
Next up for Klopp is a trip to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon. They then face Huddersfield Town in midweek before jetting off to America to take part in the International Champions Cup.
