Jurgen Klopp makes the change to the starting XI that all Liverpool fans would have hoped for

Evan Fanning

He’s gone… for now.

It’s hard not to have some sympathy for Alberto Moreno.

He made his name as an attacking full-back and it was this prowess going forward that persuaded Liverpool to shell out £17m to prise him from Sevilla. But now everyone expects him to be able to defend like Paolo Maldini.

That’s the theory at least. The reality is that Moreno’s carelessness in defence is such that it’s hard to make any case for his inclusion.

Jurgen Klopp has been a defender of Moreno’s (about the only defending that’s going on where he’s concerned) but the Spaniard has been dropped to the bench for Liverpool’s trip to Burnley and is replaced at left-back by James Milner.

That’s one of two changes Jurgen Klopp has made to the side that won 4-3 at the Emirates on the opening weekend.

The other is enforced – Sadio Mane’s shoulder injury means he is out and Daniel Sturridge comes in to lead the line in attack.

Here is that Liverpool starting XI in full.

Sean Dyche gives a start to new signing Steven Defour in midfield. Burnley lost their opening game 1-0 at home to Swansea.

The match is live on Sky Sports 5 at 3pm as part of the broadcaster’s new package exclusive to Irish subscribers.
