Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund fans heading to Anfield later know that the night is not just about the result.

Both sets of supporters are keenly aware that the Europa League second leg clash comes just a few hours before the final ever Hillsborough memorial service will take place at Anfield.

The long inquest into the tragedy concluded recently, and a final conclusion from the jury is expected in the coming days.

Tonight there will be a minute’s silence at Anfield before kick-off to remember the 96 victims, while the Liverpool has also produced a special programme for the night.

Jurgen Klopp has also chosen his programme notes to remember the 15 April 1989 tragedy, and has urged the Liverpool team to try and do their best to remember the victims of the disaster with a special performance tonight.

“Tonight we, as a team, will do our best to honour them and their memory, along with the supporters of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

“Although I am still learning about this club, this city and this culture, I am already well-aware of the significance of the events at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989. I am aware of the inspirational impact the victims, their families and the survivors have on the club and the city of Liverpool.

“I am aware they are always in our thoughts and their memory must remain central to us all. I am also aware that, as a team and club, our role is to support the families and survivors, while remembering and honouring those who lost their lives.”

The man is pure class, and Borussia Dortmund fans are also planning their own special Hillsborough tribute before the game in the away section.
