Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that he can’t explain midfielder Paul Pogba’s recent form and that the player must be the one to answer those questions.
Pogba has scored three goals and has provided nine assists in 19 Premier League games for United this season but has been in and out of the Manchester United team over the last month.
The 25-year-old shone against Russia in a pre-World Cup friendly on Tuesday but Mourinho could not offer an explanation as to why he was performing well for France but failing to replicate that kind of form for his club side.
“This season and also last season (he had a bad injury),” said Mourinho.
“I think he is very fine after the injury. It was a difficult injury, it was an injury that other players, other clubs, other medical assessments, they end in surgery.
“His option with the medical opinions was not to go to the surgery table and his recovery was really, really good and I think he is more than fine in relation to the recovery from the injury, which is a muscular area sometimes where you have a recurrence.
“In his case, not at all.”
The Portuguese manager insisted that he can do no more with Pogba and that the player’s performances are his own responsibility.
“Ask him. Ask him when you have a chance what he thinks about it,” added Mourinho.
“I work (to get the best out of him). It’s the only thing I can do. I cannot do anything else.”
