Mourinho x Scottish football is the crossover event we all want.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War was at the time of its release labelled the “most ambitious crossover event” in modern cultural history, thanks to its large cast from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film had Captain America, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Thanos, but it, unfortunately, missed two crucial elements that could have pushed it into truly legendary status: Jose Mourinho and Scottish football.
Admittedly, these two would have been strange additions to a movie about the universe facing a cataclysmic threat but would have been welcome nonetheless.
Avengers: Endgame has now come and gone and once again – SPOILER ALERT – Mourinho and Scottish football remain absent, but if Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is to be believed, then we might not have too long to wait before we see the Portuguese manager and the world’s funniest football country united at last.
According to Di Marzio, the Scottish Premiership champions have made an offer to the former Manchester United manager to replace current coach Neil Lennon.
Lennon has been in charge of Celtic – his second term at the helm of the club – since Brendan Rodgers departed for Leicester City at the end of February.
Mourinho has been looking for a club since being sacked by Manchester United, and the thought of managing a truly legendary club like Celtic may tempt him.
For the rest of us, the thought of Mourinho being in amongst it in Scottish football is almost too good to fully realise in our minds. We can see it all now: Jose fighting with the Partick Thistle mascot during a cup game, running down the Ibrox sideline after a late winner, or getting into a fist fight with Celtic captain Scott Brown.
It’s all waiting for you up in Scotland, Jose. Please accept the job.
