We doubt Raheem Sterling will be getting invited back for Liverpool Legends’ games in twenty years.
The 20 year old’s exit from the club has been acrimonious, to say the least, and his actions the past few months has been widely condemned by former Liverpool players.
Sterling rejected Liverpool’s offer of a new contract, worth £100,000, and said he was primarily interested in winning trophies. He then reportedly cited a breakdown in relations with manager Brendan Rodgers as a motivating factor in wanting to leave.
He also pulled a few sickies, and is now on the verge of a £49 million move to Manchester City, and a contact worth £200,000 a week.
Jamie Carragher has said Sterling’s been badly advised, John Aldridge said the club are right to take Manchester City’s money and run, and now Jason McAteer says the player better get used to life on the bench at the Etihad Stadium.
The former Liverpool and Ireland midfielder compared Sterling to former City players Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair. Both were young, talented English players, who’s career development was derailed after joining City, before been shipped out.
Rodwell Sinclair………….sterling !! Should always be carful what you wish for #bench

McAteer then said today that he feels Sterling’s development would’ve been better served by spending another year at Anfield, blaming the player’s agent Aidy Ward for pushing the deal.
Sterlings progression would be far better with another year at LFC playing week in week out- MC next season would be better Agents pushed it

Does McAteer have a point? Or has Sterling firmly burned his bridges at Anfield, and the club are right to cash in?
