Jamie Vardy is known for many things, some good, some bad. He’s the type of player who polarises opinion for a whole host of reasons. But quite apart from his footballing abilities or extra-curricular activities, he is rarely cited for his humour.

But those beady-eyed folk at Soccer AM have managed to catch the England man being genuinely hilarious in the tunnel ahead of Leicester City’s game with Southampton. It may have ended 3-o to the Saints, but Vardy definitely won this round.

As Kasper Schmeichel warmly greeted Danish compatriot, Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, prior to the clash, the Foxes forward seized his chance to reference cult Channel 4 show The Inbetweeners.

Whether you’re a fan of the comedy series, or you’ve just happened across the proliferation of memes, you’ll be aware of the lead foursome’s reaction to any act of, or reference to, friendship…

Pouncing on his opportunity like a stray ball in the penalty area, Vardy produced this moment of comedy gold. Brilliant.
