James McClean’s act of Christmas charity to homeless in Derry may be his best yet

Above and beyond

The guy never stops giving.

James McClean has long been near the top of our list of classiest, selfless sports stars when it comes to charitable deeds.

Whether it is fulfilling a promise to ailing youngsters, digging out a struggling GAA side or giving back to his local community, the Ireland midfielder always goes one step further.

McClean joined with former Derry City striker Vincent Sweeney in donating ‘a significant amount’ of money to a charity that helps homeless men and women dependent on alcohol.

According to Derry Journal, the former teammates donated money to the House in the Wells and Foyle Valley House, which are both managed by Apex Housing Association.

Writing on his Facebook page to raise awareness of the charity, Sweeney stated:

“Thanks to James McClean for joining together with me to make a donation to The House in the Wells and Foyle Valley House.

“I hope that a few of you may also give what you can to this worthy cause. Christmas is such an important time to help others who are less fortunate than you – no one knows what’s around the corner.”

“I wanted to make sure everyone gets a Christmas dinner and has somewhere warm to go on Christmas Day,” Sweeney added.

“I know there are a lot of people in need so we all need to do what we can to help the people of our town.”

Top marks to both men.
