James McClean rips into UK Prime Minister, calling him ‘vile’

Simon Kelly

“Vile horrible wee weasel of a man.”

James McClean hasn’t held back after he called the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak a ‘vile’ man.

In response to Sunak saying the UK acted in “self-defence” by ordering military strikes in Yemen, the now-retired Ireland international hit out on social media.

McClean shared a Sky News Instagram story on the topic with the caption:

“Vile horrible wee weasel of a man, the innocent lives that Israel have taken daily in Palestine over the past few months, which of course he’s in favour for tho do not matter.”

Over the last week, the US and UK have carried out air strikes in Yemen to deter attacks from the Houthi on ships passing through the Red Sea.

The Houthis are an Iran-aligned group based in Yemen and have claimed that their attacks are in response to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.

McClean was one of over 200 sports stars to sign an open letter calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The open letter, which was also signed by the likes of Keith Earls and Joe Brolly, called on athletic organisations in Ireland to call for an international investigation into “Israel’s violation of the Olympic charter.”

It also advocated for sports clubs, fan groups and communities to become “Apartheid Free Zones” by boycotting Israeli products.

Signing off the letter, the sports stars said:

“After 75 years of racist oppression, Palestinians deserve freedom, justice, and equality. This is a crucial moment for humanity. The time to act is now. We must stand together, and we must not fail.”
