Conor McGregor was as jubilant as any Republic of Ireland fan on Wednesday night.
The Notorious was one of 1.2 million people in Ireland who watched on television as the Boys in Green overcame Italy thanks to Robbie Brady’s headed goal.
Ireland look set to be heading for an early exit from Euro 2016 until Wes Hoolahan and Brady combined, sending thousands in the stadium, and millions at home, into the raptures, and bringing out the football pundit within McGregor.
The Dubliner sent a tweet within minutes of the final whistle, and singled out one Irish player in particular for their performance.
McGregor dubbed James McClean “an animal” for his performance, and had some less than kind words for the referee who had failed to award Ireland a penalty for a clear push on the West Brom winger
YEESSSS GET IN THERE!!!!
McLean is an ANIMAL! Ref is a rat. Brady what a fucking header!!!
BUZZING!!!! COME ON YOU BOYS IN GREEN!!!!— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) June 22, 2016
McClean responded to the tweet, and another tweet from boxer Pajo Hyland.
Hyland looked to set up a sparring session between the two, which McClean jokingly accepted. The respect between McGregor and McClean is definitely mutual.
