Jack Wilshere incurs wrath of furious Arsenal fans with his Wayne Rooney tribute

What was he expecting?

Jack Wilshere might want to stay away from Twitter for a while.

The Arsenal midfielder, who’s currently on loan at Bournemouth, made a cardinal sin on the social media platform on Sunday that some fans may never forgive – he complimented a player from a rival club.

Wilshere paid his respects to compatriot Wayne Rooney after the striker became Manchester United’s record goal scorer on Saturday. His goal during the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Stoke City brought his overall tally up to 250 which saw him surpass Bobby Charlton’s club record.

The tributes came flooding in for Rooney online after his history-making goal, but few were as badly received as that of Wilshere. Well, Robbie Keane and Alan Shearer gave him a run for his money, but Wilshere’s probably takes the biscuit in terms of the sheer anger it sparked.

Wilshere has played alongside Rooney at international level and the wording of his tweet suggests he considers him to be best captain he’s ever played with, not player in general.

Despite this, Arsenal fans took issue with the tweet and let Wilshere know exactly what they thought of him ranking Rooney above their beloved German playmaker, Mesut Ozil.
