They’re not giving Ireland much chance.
Not only are the Republic ranked wide outsiders to win Euro 2016, they’re odds-on to be eliminated from the group stage. Odds-on. From the group stage.
According to Ladbrokes, Martin O’Neill’s men are ahead of just three teams in the 24-nation tournament, with hosts France out in front with the shortest odds of 3/1.
Ireland are priced at 150/1 to win the tournament.
Despite four of the six third-place finishers advancing from the group stages, Ireland aren’t even being backed to get out, priced at 4/7 to exit after their three group games.
And, if you really, really, really don’t think Ireland are going to win the whole thing, here are the prices you can get them at to be eliminated at certain phases.
Ireland’s stage of elimination
Group stage – 4/7
Last 16 – 11/5
Quarter-final – 9/1
Semi-final – 22/1
Runner-up – 66/1
Game-by-game, it’s as generous as well with the boys in green priced as underdogs for every single group clash.
June 13th Ireland v Sweeden
Ireland – 2/1

June 18th Belgium v Ireland
Belgium 8/13
Draw 27/10
Ireland 4/1
June 22nd Italy v Ireland
Italy 3/4
Draw 5/2
Ireland 16/5
“Ireland are often the underdogs but tend to bite when least expected. We stunned England in Stuttgart in ’88, caused a massive upset at USA ’94 beating Italy, but predicting when we’ll pounce is the hard part and why Ireland are usually generously priced,” Hayley O’Connor from Ladbrokes said.
“This season’s Premier League was proof that bookmakers can get it completely wrong and in the case of Ireland’s chances in France, we hope we have.”
Here’s to underdogs biting.
