It needs to happen.
Ireland are really struggling to get in behind Georgia.
No goals now and a serious lack of shape, something needs to change.
Who we should bring on is now becoming a cliche but the only reason it is because Wes Hoolahan just doesn’t get on the pitch enough for Ireland.
Just about everyone in Ireland knows that Eamon Dunphy loves him, with good reason too. His goal against Sweden in Euro 2016, his pass against Italy, set up two goals against Moldova and shaped the game when he came on against Austria at home.
We don’t deserve him.
Now we just need a breakthrough and this game is crying out for the Norwich player to make an impact.
Before the game, Dunphy spoke about the 35-year-old:
“When Wes Hoolahan starts for Ireland we get 2.15 points and when he doesn’t we get 1.32 (points). He’s a vital player,” said the RTÉ pundit.
“You’re only pressing to win the ball back because you’ve given it to the opposition. You need to do damage when you have it as we saw Wes do and McClean against Austria and we’ve also got David Meyler.
“I’m just a fan of footballers and it is decided by passing the ball well and lessening the amount of time you have to spend chasing it to get it back.
“Even in the last game, the Austria game, he came on for 15 minutes. He impressed, he changed the tempo and he gave us more poise. I think we need that tonight, we will need that tonight,” concluded Dunphy.
Now it’s time to rattle the Georgians, start passing them off the pitch, not only do Ireland need to come away with three points we also need to make a statement coming into the, even more, crunch game against Serbia on Tuesday.
