Gündoğan had to wait to receive his prize
Ilkay Gündoğan has finally been awarded his FA Cup winners medal after he initially missed out on one, despite being the best player on the pitch that day.
Gündoğan was the star of the show at Wembley as he scored both goals in Manchester City’s 2-1 win against rivals, Manchester United, on Saturday.
His first was a sweet first-time volley after 13 seconds – the fastest goal scored in an FA Cup final – before putting City back ahead after Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser with another volley on the edge of the box that David De Gea was unable to get to.

But despite his heroics, Gündoğan left Wembley empty-handed, with The Sun reporting that Prince William informed the German that he had run out of medals.
Kevin De Bruyne also missed out on a medal however Sergio Gomez – who wasn’t in the match day squad – was spotted wearing a medal after the game.
Teams are usually given 20 medals on the day to ensure that their starting XI, substitutes and manager are afforded one while an extra 19 are made available after the event so that all staff and players who didn’t get one at Wembley, still get recognition for their achievements.
24 hours on and it seems that Gündoğan has finally got his long-awaited medal.
The German is still in talks with Man City about his future at the club, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month however the midfielder has remained tight-lipped on whether he will stay or go.
“Nothing is decided yet,” he told BBC Sport. “We’re going to see what’s going to happen.”
