‘What the f**k is he apologising for that for? Stand your ground bro’
Ian Wright has insisted that Marcus Rashford has ‘nothing to apologise for’ after a video showed him confronting fans after Manchester United’s Champions League exit.
The Red Devils suffered defeat to reigning LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, losing 1-0 at Old Trafford and 2-1 on aggregate.
As fans waited outside the ground to express their thoughts and feelings on the abject display, it was Rashford who received the bulk of the anger.
In a video recorded by a fan, one supporter can be heard shouting “Come on Rashford! After that performance, come on let’s hear you.”
Initially, the forward continued to walk on before turning around and walk towards the group of fans waiting. Rashford was eventually prevented from going any further by the security, but could reportedly be heard shouting back “Come round the back then.”
However, the England international moved to clarify his exchange with the disgruntled supporter outside Old Trafford, claiming the footage being circulated on social media “lacks context”.
Following the incident, former Arsenal striker Wright posted a video on Twitter saying that Rashford has nothing to apologise for, and suggested that apologies ‘give these fans the fuel to think they can dig people out’.

He said: “Someone just sent me the Marcus Rashford video where he confronted the fans because the fans were digging him out, and he offered one of them out.
“I don’t know who’s doing it, man, who’s doing this apologising. What the f*** is he apologising for that for?
“People are quick to [say] ‘oh, I’, sorry’, that’s what gives these fans that fuel to think that they can dig people out.
“Marcus, stand your ground bro, tell them about their rassclat self, yes.
“You’ve got these people jumping on [social media], ‘Oh Marcus is so sorry’, don’t be f***ing sorry for that bro, some of them fans love giving it, but can’t take it, you just do your stuff and get back to where you need to be bro.
“F*** them fans, bro.”
United’s defeat to Atletico means it will now be more than five years since the club last won a major honour.
