Manchester United took a while to formally announce the signing of Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but that’s only because most of their transfer deals are announced for them these days.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed his Old Trafford move in a now-infamous Instagram post, and a few days later Borussia Dortmund also beat United’s PR department to the job by releasing a statement confirming Mkhitaryan’s transfer to the Premier League.

United caught up with the rest of the internet, this afternoon, and announced the midfield ace.

As excited as fans presumably are about the imminent arrival of the 27-year-old midfield ace, we imagine quite a few are staring blankly at their computer screens wondering how to properly pronounce his name.
Mkhitaryan is clearly aware of this potential stumbling block and handily cleared it up in a video last year.

So the accurate phonetic pronunciation is: Hen-reek Muck-heat-are-ee-an. There – you now have no excuse not to sound cultured in the pub.
Mkhitaryan becomes Jose Mourinho’s third signing as Manchester United manager, after Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
