In fairness to the locals, Sky Sports did start playing ‘Three Lions: It’s Coming Home’ as his intro.
Harry Kane has decided to spend some of his off-season in Dundee.
There is lots to see and do, of course, in Dundee (Tay Rail Bridge, fudge-making, Broughty Castle… and more) but Kane is up in Scotland for the final day of The Open Championship.
The Tottenham striker is not long back from England’s World Cup adventure in Russia, where he won the Golden Boot for his six-goal salvo.
Kane is a keen golfer and, he says, gets out for a game once a month. He plays off a handicap of four, so that’s another sport just about mastered.
Sky Sports invited the England captain along to their broadcast compound at Carnoustie and invited him to take part in their 99-yard challenge. The basic concept is to chip to a flag 99 yards away and get as close to the pin as possible.
Former tennis star Tennis Henman is the leading celebrity amateur – lazering his approach to within four yards – while English pro Eddie Pepperell stuck his to within inches of the pin.
Sky’s Nick Dougherty had the task of interviewing Kane but not before the English football anthem ‘It’s Coming Home’ rang out. That song did not get a great reception from the local fans in the crowd.

Kane took the booing in good spirits and further poked the Scottish bear when Dougherty asked him who he would be following:
“Probably Justin Rose. It’d be good to see some of the English guys go well. Obviously I’ll be following Tiger Woods as well.”
After tipping Rose, who starts his final round five shots back of the leaders, to win the Claret Jug, Kane stepped up and chipped to within seven yards of the pin with a sand-wedge approach.
Not good enough to pip Henman but better than Celtic captain Scott Brown’s effort. That news, again, was met with heckles.

Let’s hope Kane gets out of Carnoustie in one piece!
