Yet another Liverpool player takes aim at Harry Kane with Instagram jibe

Conan Doherty

Alright, it stopped being funny after the 15th time.

It stopped being funny when Simon Mignolet stuck his gob in.

The saddest thing about it is that Harry Kane was the only loser out of all this when he claimed a goal off his team mate Christian Eriksen, presumably in pursuit of the top scorer award.

Pointless enough in the end.

But then Liverpool players got involved and, after one or two smirks at the bantz the lads were having, you’re left wondering why they’re still banging on about it. And why the hell they banged anything in the first place anyway when Kane was the only one going to be getting stick for a petty appeal for a goal that did not matter.

“I swear on my daughter’s life that I touched the ball!”

You can only assume that the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeal Panel just didn’t want the hassle of a man willing to swear on his daughter’s life so gave him the bloody goal knowing Mo Salah would keep scoring anyway and make the decision a non-event in the race for the Golden Boot.

You could understand Salah raising an eyebrow at it but, even then, as a purist looking up to someone like the Egyptian and all that he was doing, you were wondering why he cared as much as Kane obviously did when he was making history with Liverpool and in the middle of taking them to the Champions League final.

But you can make your peace with it. A competitive man directly affected by a dubious decision. Fine.

Just stay out of it, Simon.

At least back then, it was still a little fresh and the Liverpool supporters were lapping it up.

So young Alexander-Arnold jumped in.

But when two more lads seemed put out by it, it started to feel a little small-time. As if the manager should be coming in and saying, ‘alright, cop on now. Who cares?’

This was just after they had just destroyed the European favourites Man City at Anfield.

Remember, Harry Kane was the only person who could lose out of this. What he did was sad, Liverpool were flying high, Mo Salah was coasting to the individual award which we’ll be told isn’t important, it’s about the team. Liverpool didn’t need to nor they should they have risen or sunken to Kane.

But, no, even the self-appointed club centaur Jordan Henderson took a shot.

James Milner. James Milner! The most likeable man in football.

Meanwhile, Simon Mignolet is making his own GIFs and loving life out of the spotlight, away from clanger criticism.

And the final insult, Dejan Lovren.

A man who let two balls float over his head at Wembley – against Spurs and Harry Kane, funnily enough – before being whipped off early and taken out of his misery.

A man who ballsed up so badly against Everton in the last minute of a game Sam Allardyce didn’t even want to score in that he had to delete his Instagram account to get away from the abuse.

Well, he’s back on Instagram and he’s sticking it to Kane. Or ‘Mr Touch’ as he ingeniously put it.

Just go win the Champions League, for God’s sake. Leave this sort of carry on to the losers who started the thing in the first place.
