A former spokesman for the Glazer family, who have owned Manchester United for nigh on a decade, has made some revelations in new book that suggests then-boss Alex Ferguson was chummy with the Americans.

In his book, ‘The Glazer Gatekeeper: six years speaking for Manchester United’s silent owners’, Teshin Nayani’s opens the lid on life at Old Trafford. Nayani’s tome has been serialised by The Daily Mail and contains some intriguing insights.

He writes: ‘The Glazer brothers also spent twenty minutes or so with Sir Alex and the players in their dressing room. A post-match ritual they would fulfil each time they attended a game.’

The book also reveals that Joel Glazer, one of Malcolm’s sons, is a firm believer that the United fans hold no ill will to his family.

The Glazers bought United for £800m, by Malcolm Glazer, in 2004 but much of the money was highly leveraged loans that saddled the club with debt. Protests against the United owners were vocal, and visible in the early years of their reign but have died down in recent years.

Meanwhile, F.C United, the team founded by disillusioned Manchester United fans, a decade ago, are on the verge of promotion from the Evo-stick Northern League Premier. The club are set to mark the opening of their 5,000-seater stadium with a friendly against Benfica, next month.

Promotion for F.C United would put them only two divisions away the League Two.
