It was supposed to be a celebratory occasion but Geoffrey Boycott couldn’t help but tell the truth when interviewed at Manchester United’s end-of-season awards ceremony.
Boycott, a former England cricketer, issued a withering assessment of the current state of United when interviewed by the club’s official television channel, MUTV.
While Boycott’s comments weren’t welcomed by the interviewer, most supporters applauded the 78-year-old for expressing the true opinion of the Old Trafford faithful.
“Disappointment more than anything,” Boycott answered when asked what United meant to him right now.
“For half of the season there was hope, some enjoyment, some good times. And somehow it’s kind of faded away towards the end.
“The football hasn’t been inspiring, if anything they’ve let themselves down and the people who support Man United, because I think they are a bit better than that. It’s not just the results but some of the football has been hard to watch.”
I don’t think #mutv will be inviting Geoff Boycott back on anytime soon. Ffs Geoff! 😂 #mufc #MUFCPOTY pic.twitter.com/imBV8m7iVx

When the interviewer attempted to give Boycott the opportunity to say something positive by suggesting that the club was in a rebuilding process under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Boycott simply wasn’t having it.
“He doesn’t have a record of experience, does he? He had a short time at Cardiff,” Boycott continued.
“He looked after a team in his own country but it’s not the Premier League.”
It’s safe to say he won’t be invited back on MUTV in a hurry.
