Man United star was so bad against Newcastle, even Gary Neville blamed him instead of Glazers

“I don’t think we are being hard enough.”

Man United star was so bad in Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle that Gary Neville actually blamed him instead of pointing the finger solely at the Glazers.

United lost their second consecutive game by a scoreline of 3-0 as the pressure begins to heap on Erik ten Hag, with performances on the pitch being well below what is expected.

Last Sunday following their disappointing display against Man City in the Manchester derby, Jamie Carragher was critical of the manager, the players and the style of football they are trying to play, while Roy Keane even suggested that Bruno Fernandes should be stripped of the captaincy.

Neville however refused to go into such details, and continued to place the blame entirely on the ownership, citing the line that ‘you don’t blame the kids, you blame the school teacher.’

However, after yet another brutal performance last night, even Neville had to put his go-to line in his back pocket, as the striker Anthony Martial enraged him.

“When you hear the stats there and think he is a goalscorer that cost £50-60million and has scored 89 goals in nine years and we still can’t get him out of the club,” Neville raged.

“I don’t think we are being hard enough. The failing of the football and recruitment department is absolutely incredible.

“The reality is there is no way he should be leading the line in any competition. They have the young lad Hojlund who has real promise but they need experience up alongside him.”

After a fiery start to his rant he did regain some composure and admitted that it’s not entirely Martial’s fault, and that he has been unfortunate to be at the club in a time of such disarray.

“If he came into United and his partner was Cole, Yorke or Cantona you would see a sensation as the pressure would be off him. I feel for him a bit.”
