Gareth Bale is backing Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal in Euro 2016 final

Wishing his teammate good luck

If you weren’t already convinced that the whispers about Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale not getting along were a load of bollocks, Wednesday night in Lyon should’ve done the trick.

Bale and his Welsh teammates’ Euro 2016 run finally came to an end that night, with Portugal – captained by Ronaldo – ending their campaign with a 2-0 victory.

While the last-four meeting of the two Real Madrid teammates once again gave rise to talk of their supposedly strained relationship, what followed the final whistle should’ve made it crystal clear to everyone that there was no animosity between them whatsoever.

Seconds after playing his role in booking Portugal’s spot in the final against France, Ronaldo made a beeline for Bale and was seen shaking hands and embracing his club-mate.

“I congratulated them on their run,” Ronaldo later explained when asked what he’d said to Bale.

“They had an amazing run. They were the shining star here, the revelation team.

“I wished them good luck and as for the rest I would rather not say.”

With the final in Paris a matter of hours away, Bale has now wished Ronaldo – along with fellow Real Madrid teammate Pepe – all the best for their meeting with the host nation at the Stade de France.
