"For me, he's Manchester United's best defender."
Gabby Agbonlahor has taken issue with Roy Keane's criticism of Harry Maguire following Manchester United's sixth-place finish in the Premier League.
The former Aston Villa forward was critical of Keane's punditry approach, as he suggested that some Man United fans do not rate the club's captain due to Keane's criticism of the player.
Gabby Agbonlahor criticises Roy Keane's 'personal' comments.
Agbonlahor weighed in on
Keane's criticism of Maguire and said it was "a bit too personal for my liking."
The former England international suggested the Man United captain doesn't deserve a lot of the criticism that he receives and feels that some of the criticism stems from pundits such as Keane.
"When pundits like Roy Keane, who really come for players like Maguire a bit too personal for my liking. And then everyone feels Roy Keane, whatever he says is how it should be," Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
"Then people have made their decision on Maguire because of what pundits like Roy Keane say, so I think he gets a lot of stick that he doesn't deserve."
Agbonlahor labels Harry Maguire as 'Manchester United's best defender.'
Agbonlahor, surprisingly, labelled Maguire as Man United's best defender this season, ahead of Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof.
The 35-year-old urged Man United supporters to get behind Maguire following a season where the defender was booed playing for England.
"For me, he's Manchester United's best defender. You look at Varane; very poor this season. Lindelof; very poor this season," Agbonlahor added.
"And as a country, we should be getting behind our players. Not booing them, not trying to put them off their game."
