Reports claimed that Lampard was recommended to Todd Boehly by the TV star
Chelsea interim boss Frank Lampard was forced to brush aside a question about TV star James Corden ahead of the Blues’ Champions League quarter final against Real Madrid.
Lampard has returned to Stamford Bridge until the end of the season, replacing Graham Potter who was sacked earlier this month.
Following his return, reports suggested that Corden played a role in the return of Lampard to the club after speaking to co-owner Todd Boehly – a close friend of the TV personality – and informing him that the former Everton boss would be a good fit for the club.
To see if the rumours were true, one reporter from Sky Sports asked Lampard to confirm while also asking if so, are Real Madrid in “A League of Their Own” as a nod to the comedy panel show that Corden used to host.

After a brief moment of awkward silence, Lampard said: “I saw the headline. I’m not aware of whether it’s true or not but it’s obviously a good headline to put together, casually, from the outside.
“When I look at the success of Todd Boehly and the owners of Chelsea Football Club, I think you have to respect that success and respect the idea that they’ll probably make decisions based on more than a conversation with one person.
“So, that’s as much as I’m going to give your two questions.”
The Chelsea legend’s first game back on the touchline culminated in a 1-0 defeat away at Wolverhampton Wanderers to leave them 11th in the Premier League.
