The game has gone ahead despite the affected club’s attempts to postpone it.

Four Irish Premiership footballers were involved in a road accident this afternoon while travelling to play for their team.

Dungannon Swifts announced the news via social media shortly before their 3pm kick off against Ballymena United at Stangmore Park.

The statement reads: “Unfortunately four of our first team squad have been involved in a RTC on the way to our fixture against Ballymena United today.

“We will give a further update later after the game. We wish the four boys a full and speedy recovery.”

According to the Belfast Telegraph, members of the Dungannon Swifts coaching staff attempted to have the game postponed, but match officials decided that the game would go ahead as planned.

BBC Sport has indicated that Dungannon manager Rodney McAree plans to speak to the media about the incident after the game.
