One of Manchester United’s academy graduates will embark on a career in Major League Soccer after joining New York City FC.

Nineteen-year-old Jack Harrison was picked first in the MLS draft by Chicago Fire, before being traded to Bronx-based NYCFC, the club owned by Manchester City’s parent company.

Harrison, a winger, left United’s academy and attended a High School in Massachusetts and went on to play college football (soccer) in the States, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“It’s just a massive whirlwind. I’m really grateful for this opportunity,” he explained.

Harrison, who is from Bolton, also appears to be relishing the opportunity to work with Patrick Vieira as the former City coach begins his first role as a manager.

“Obviously, being coached by Patrick Vieira is an opportunity not many people can say they have. I’m really excited about this new step in my life and I am looking forward to making the most out of it.”

The MLS season starts in March, with NYCFC one of many teams hoping to replace Portland Timbers as champions.
