Football fans warmly congratulate the universally popular Brendan Rodgers on his new job

A hero returns

Simon Lloyd

There’s been a gaping Brendan Rodgers-shaped hole in the football world since his departure from Liverpool last October.

Thankfully, the Northern Irishman has made his long-awaited return to the game, with Celtic announcing on Friday afternoon that he will replace Ronny Deila as the club’s manager.

Rodgers is still held in God-like esteem by many for the David Brent-esque role he played in the hit 2012 mockumentary sitcom ‘Being Liverpool’.

With the news breaking that that Rodgers’ stay in the managerial wilderness had finally come to an end, football supporters from every corner of the globe instantly took to Twitter to send heart-felt welcome back messages to the 43-year-old…

Many saw Celtic as the perfect club for Rodgers to launch the next phase of his career:

And supporters of Glasgow’s other team couldn’t wait to welcome him to the city.

A huge day for Celtic. A huge day for Brendan Rodgers. Football has clearly missed him.
