Players of the popular video game FIFA 17 can pay their own unique respects to Brazilian club Chapecoense.
Tributes have been flooding in from all parts of the world as everyone begins to come to terms with the a tragedy that has rocked Brazil and the footballing community in general.
FIFA 17 has now given its players a special opportunity to pay their respects to the grief-stricken club.
FIFA Ultimate Team, a popular game-mode within the game, now allows players to use the Chapecoense crest and kit for their squads.
In fact, once you sign-in to Ultimate Team, you are greeted with the following message.
“In support of Chapecoense,
Wear this kit and crest in support of the friends, family, and fans of Chapecoense,
Forca Chape.”
The Brazilian side were on their way to the Colombian city of Medellin for the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final at the time of the crash, which reportedly killed 71 of the 77 players, staff, journalists and crew on board.
Three days of mourning have been declared by the Brazilian government and thousands of the club’s fans held a vigil for the crash victims on Tuesday night with many of them gathering in the city centre to walk to the stadium. A service was also held at Chapeco’s cathedral.
This is a wonderful gesture from EA Sports, the creators of the game, and it is one which seems to have gone down well with its players.
