Three players to sign
1. Sergio Aguero
Fixture:Â Man City v Arsenal
Price: £12.4m
Selected by: 13.6%
Okay he is pricey and okay he is owned by more players than you’d like but c’mon, it is Sergio Aguero. He has only played a total of 30 minutes since December 3 but he is still the second highest points scoring forward, behind Charlie Austin. That’s how good he was before he got injured.
We understand the reluctance to bring Aguero in now. City play Arsenal and Chelsea next, so they are not ideal fixtures but the Argentinian is odds on to score against anyone and after those two games the likes of Hull, Stoke and Newcastle are on the horizon.
It might require you to play your January wildcard to get him but we don’t think you’ll regret it.
2. Jason Puncheon
Fixture: Burnley v Crystal Palace
Price: £5.5m
Selected by: 2.2%
For ownership levels alone, Puncheon is worth a punt if you need to catch up on some pesky friends in your private leagues. Puncheon was superb last term under Tony Pulis and we have a feeling that Alan ‘Chaos’ Pardew may also bring the best out of the goal-scoring midfielder.
Puncheon scored his first goal since August last week and we have a feeling in our waters that Puncheon could be about to hit a purple patch. With Yannick Bolasie away on African Cup of Nations duty, it falls to Puncheon to create and drive the team from the middle and with Burnley, Everton, Leicester and Newcastle lined up as his next four games, he should get plenty of chances to add to his points total.
3 Remy Cabella
Fixture:Â Newcastle v Southampton
Price: £7.1m
Selected by: 0.9%
Cabella was a player we took a punt on at the start of the year and it didn’t really pay off. But the Frenchman’s performance last week, even if it only resulted in two points, suggests it might be time to reinvest.
Playing with the free spirit that was his trademark in France, and beating Chelsea defenders for fun, we reckon he could be about to hit a purple patch at last. An injury depleted Southampton are up this weekend, followed by Hull, Stoke and and the juicy game against Alan Pardew’s Palace.
If Cabella is ever to hit his stride, it is during these three games and virtually nobody owns him. He’s a tad pricey, but if you need to take a gamble to make up some ground, he’s worth a shot.
Three players to sell
1. Robin van Persie
Fixture:Â QPR v Manchester United
Price: £12.3m
Selected by 3.4%
Aside from the injury that will keep him out this weekend, now is definitely the time to ditch the Dutchman. A five point haul from his last three games is not good enough for a player with that price tag and with a certain Manchester City striker now fit, you simply have to sell RVP to get Aguero.
2. Christian Eriksen
Fixture:Â Tottenham v Sunderland
Price: £8.2m
Selected by: 16.6%
While Harry Kane is a no brainer in every Fantasy Football team these days, trying to select a second Tottenham player is a nightmare. Every week a different one seems to do well and with one goal and no assists in his last five, it is time to say goodbye to the Dane.
At that size of a price tag, he simply can’t be retained at that level of return so if you really must have a second Spurs player then Nacer Cadli might be a better bet.
3. Gylfi Sigurdsson
Fixture:Â Swansea v Chelsea
Price: £6.8m
Selected by: 43.8%
It makes us sad but the Icelander has to go. Not only is he owned by virtually half the game but with main man Wilfried Bony gone, those assists could start to dry up pretty sharpish.
Add in games against Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United over the next five and Gylfi’s returns may be about to get slimmer than a low-fat Ryvita.
If, and it is a massive if, Bafétimbi Gomis settles in and does well leading the Swansea line, we may bring back the former Spurs man but for now we are prepared to let him go.
