“We are confident.”
Man United manager Erik ten Hag is surprisingly ‘confident’ that his side can cause an upset on Sunday and beat Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League.
Liverpool currently sit top of the league, 10 points clear of their rivals who are in sixth place and on a bad run of form, losing 3-0 to Bournemouth and then to Bayern Munich to finish bottom of their Champions League group.
This poor form coupled with the fact that the last time the two sides met at Anfield, Liverpool hammered their opponents an incredible 7-0, and this was against the run of form, as the Reds were struggling at the time while the Red Devils were flying high.
With so much scar tissue already in place, and this being the first game where Liverpool’s new stand will be in use, meaning that there will be more home fans than ever in the PL at Anfield, everything looks to be going against Ten Hag.
“They are playing good, no doubt,’ Ten Hag said of Liverpool.
“But we have had some tough games in the last period, as Bayern is also a very tough team. We have seen that we can go head-to-head with them and that is our challenge for Sunday as well.
“We will put out a team who can challenge, who is confident to win that game. We are preparing the team in the best way we can.
“We are confident we can put out a team who can win there.”
The last couple of games have not only been disastrous because of the defeats, but the ever-growing injury list as well. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw both came off midweek to add to the pile on the treatment table.
However, some of the injuries and doubts have been because of illnesses and viruses, like in Marcus Rashford’s case, so there is every possibility that the list of ailments isn’t as long as we might think.
United could potentially field a team with more stars than initially thought, which would have course increase their confidence going into this important game.
One player they definitely will be without however, is club captain Bruno Fernandes who will miss the game through suspension.
