Tottenham defensive midfielder Eric Dier received a yellow card for a rash challenge on Spain defender Sergio Ramos during England’s Uefa Nations League tie in Betis on Monday.
England took a 3-0 lead into half-time thanks to a two goal brace from Raheem Sterling, who ended his three-year goal drought in an England shirt with a quickfire double, and a strike from Marcus Rashford who scored minutes before the interval.
However, while England dominated Luis Enrique’s side during the opening 45 minutes at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, Dier worked his way into referee Szymon Marciniak’s book after he collided with Ramos in what looked like a very unnecessary challenge.

Dier was one of 23-players selected by England manager Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions World Cup squad earlier this summer and the former defender can’t understand why the Premier League season started so soon after the conclusion of the tournament.
“A lot of teams haven’t started yet at the level when they are at their maximum and there are a lot of injuries across our league,” Southgate said before the match.
“I don’t really understand why our league started so early, but it did. It was a really difficult situation for the clubs.
“Look at Tottenham, who had so many players in the semi-finals of the World Cup. It is an impossible situation for the coaches.”
