The World XI is looking very strong
Soccer Aid is edging closer, and with every player announcement, the excitement is building. The friendly match that raises money for Unicef will take place on June 10th at Old Trafford, and local fans of Manchester United will have the opportunity to see a club legend play for the World XI.
Footballing legends such as Edwin Van Der Sar, Clarence Seedorf and Yaya Touré have already been confirmed as part of the World XI squad, and it just got stronger with the arrival of Eric Cantona.
The United legend could line up alongside Patrick Kluivert up top against an England side featuring David Seaman, Phil Neville, Danny Murphy, Jamie Redknapp, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.
Cantona’s cemented his place in United folklore during his time at Old Trafford, scoring iconic goals and strutting around the pitch with a dominant aura. He is as excited to get back out on the pitch at the theatre of dreams as the fans will be to see him play.
“There is no place like home. Knowing I am coming back to Old Trafford is a special feeling and I am looking forward to seeing the stands full of familiar faces. My message is this: Soccer Aid for Unicef is a game like no other because of the support you give it. I am coming back to make the June 10th match the best ever and I want you to join me. Let’s make history together at Old Trafford again one last time,” said the Frenchman.
