English newspaper gives the team the worst player ratings possible

Is this a bit disrespectful to Iceland?

Is this a bit disrespectful to Iceland?

The fall-out from England’s 2-1 defeat to Iceland was never going to be pretty. Roy Hodgson resigned as manager immediately following their Euro 2016 exit and no tears would be shed if some of the team’s players followed suit.

England were spectacularly awful, unable to perform the most basic of functions, hindered by a muddled ‘tactics’ and created little of note throughout the game. However, Iceland did their part and were full value for the win.

The smallest nation to ever qualify for the European Championships, in their debut international tournament, were comfortable for the majority of the game and executed their game plan to a tee.

However, The London Times don’t seem to see it that way. The newspaper recognised England’s awfulness, but, Joe Hart’s wrist aside, arguably went too far. They awarded every English player a zero out 10 rating.

It could be argued this takes the shine off Iceland’s performance. England may have been dreadful, but there were two teams involved in the game.
