Emre Can went to extreme measures to be fit for Liverpool’s Europa league semi-final

if anyone Can, he Can

He has, what you might say, a ‘Can do’ attitude.

Sorry, we’ll get our coats.

Liverpool fans are unlikely to need coats, however, for the trip to sunny Basel on May 18th, as the club look forward to a first European final in nine years in the Swiss city.

The Reds overcame Villarreal last night 3-0 to set up a final against Sevilla in two weeks time.

Jurgen Klopp was able to restore Emre Can to his starting line-up, and the young German played a blinder in the 3-0 win.

Can was a surprise inclusion, as he was expected to have missed the rest of the season when he ruptured ankle ligaments in the dramatic Europa league win over Borussia Dortmund last month.

However, Klopp confirmed he was available for selection earlier this week, and the German today confirmed he underwent a serious rehab routine in order to be for ready for Thursday’s clash.

“I put in a lot of work. I didn’t have one day off in three weeks.

“Every day I was at Melwood for seven or eight hours, doing everything I could to get fit for this game.

“I am so happy that I could play. I only found earlier in the day that I would be starting.

“The manager spoke with me and asked me if I was fit. I told him I was ready.”

The German is just one of a number of Liverpool players who have made quicker than expected returns from injury.

Klopp explained this afternoon that Jordan Henderson will be fit for the European Championships, while Divock Origi may also play some role in the Europa League finale on May 18th.
