Eamon Dunphy appears to dislike James McCarthy as much as he adores Wes Hoolahan.
The RTE pundit was very critical of the Everton midfielder’s performance in Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Sweden.

According to the former Millwall and Republic of Ireland midfielder, McCarthy is responsible for Robert Martinez losing his job at Everton, he lacks character and bravery and he should be dropped for Ireland’s next Group E fixture, against Belgium on Saturday.
“He is a waste of space, there is no other word for it,” Dunphy said.
“We won’t be able to go on with McCarthy doing nothing in midfield. I’ve watched him all season at Everton, he got his manager sacked there.
“The guy does nothing. He strolls around the pitch like a traffic cop, pointing here and there, not doing anything himself.”
Dunphy called for the 26-year-old to be replaced by James McClean, and was backed up by his fellow RTE pundit Liam Brady.
“He doesn’t have the character. He seems quite prepared to let other people do his job.”
Is Dunphy being overly harsh on the player?
Almost certainly yes.
